Foundations & FROG TRAINING

COVID-19 IMPACT: AAP-CA3 is taking necessary steps to protect the health and well-being of our partners, staff, and the community we serve. To ensure staff health and safety, AAP-CA3 will be hosting virtual training for HFA Foundations for Family Support (Foundations) and HFA Family Resilience and Opportunities Growth Scale (FROG). To get the latest updates on trainings please join our mailing list by emailing Shelby Smith.

Foundations for Family Support
(Foundations):

Foundations is an in-depth training required for all Family Support Specialists, supervisors, and program managers. The training outlines the specific duties of the Family Support Specialists in their role within Healthy Families America. Topics include, but are not limited to: trauma-informed practice; communication skills; assessing, addressing; and promoting positive parent-child relationships; creating a trusting alliance with families; goal setting and strategies to enhance family functioning; addressing difficult situations; and ensuring healthy childhood development.

This is now a five-day virtual training
with a blended learning experience, which includes both live and independent study sessions. In addition, trainees will complete homework assignments each day to practice the skills they are learning.

In order to ensure staff have a comfortable training experience, HFA asks all participants to clear their calendars so they are able to focus on the weeklong training. Trainees must not have additional work responsibilities (such as home visits or meetings) to complete during this period.

Future Foundations Training Dates:

  • May 22- May 26,  2023

Family Resilience and Opportunities for Growth Scale (FROG):

FROG training is required for all program staff that will administer the FROG Assessment tool. Supervisors and program managers are also required to attend. The training focuses on building skills to engage parents in the assessment process; learning how to gather comprehensive information from parents related to their strengths and needs using a conversational style, and obtaining guided practice from a certified user to ensure the tool is administered in a standardized and reliable manner.
